Just released, here’s a wrap-up of our new rieslings…
2019 Spring Riesling
Now our fifth release off this our younger vineyard, this for me is the most delicious and balanced texturely spring riesling to date. Although a younger vineyard grown on sandy pink quartz soils, this reflects just how wonderful the Strathbogie Ranges is for wines of brightness and substance.
2019 RS3 Riesling
Unusually for an RS this was a blend of first and second pick. First pick went straight to concrete (see next wine) which is so vivid and riveting, blended with some second pick fermented in large oak bring in a fine supple texture that veers from highly recognisable RS style we know to a structural clarity that seems just a little more amplified than normal.
2019 EB47 Concrete Jungle Riesling
Holy Moly. This is something new. This is new territory for us. Also with an RS of 3g/L, this shows texture but only submerged below the granite shelf that defines this site more every year. It’s what we embrace and love. And we are pretty excited about the concrete tanks and a vessel for happy ferments and as a vessel for maturation whereby nuance and character is revealed ever so gently. This wine is going to be an amazing wine to follow in the coming decades.
2019 RS25 Riesling
This small bottling was our accidental sweet wine that we held in tank should any of the other wines need a tickle of sugar if ferments went too far. As usual the remaining tank looks pretty smart on its own. Just a little more fruit depths and mouthfeel but not heavy or overly sweet. To be consumed before, during or after anything really.
