A highly windswept area sitting between the Warramate Hills and Mt Toolebewong. Heavy clay and mudstone soils. Managing water stress through improved soil structure and health seems hugely critical here.
Yarra Junction is in the far eastern Yarra Valley, just next to Wesburn. The soils at Yarra Junction are grey loamy clay overlying siltstone. The vineyard sits on a north easterly aspect and its position in a shallow valley protects it from the afternoon sun.
Coldstream sits at an altitude of 110m. The soils are made up of grey loam overlying clay and hold much of the afternoon heat. Due to the increased exposure to the elements, wines from this subregion tend to display greater fruit punctuation supported by a firm yet dense tannin bed.
Granite soils on the Valley floor, Yarra Glen provides a special insight in to the Yarra Valley wines of yesteryear. Daytime warmth and sun exposure is tempered by cold nights, producing fruit with full flavour and powerful, persistent structure.
